Leaving... well, not New York exactly, but....
This is how I feel today... much like REM's song "Leaving New York"
Much easier easier to understand if you watch the video, but here are the lyrics:
It's quiet now, and what it brings is everything
Comes calling back a brilliant night, I'm still awake
I looked ahead I'm sure I saw you there
You don't need me to tell you now, that nothing can compare
You might have laughed if I told you
You might have hidden the frown
You might have succeeded in changing me
I might have been turned around
It's easier to leave than to be left behind
Leaving was never my proud
Leaving New York never easy
I saw the life fading out
Now life is sweet and what it brings I tried to take
The loneliness, it wears me out, it lies in wait
And on our lost till in my eyes, shadow of necklace across your thigh
I might have lived my life in a dream, but i swear, this is real
Memory fuses in shatters out glass, but carry your future, forget the past
But it's you, it's what i feel.
You might have laughed if I told you (it's pulling me apart)
You might have hidden the frown (change)
You might have succeeded in changing me (it's pulling me apart)
I might have been turned around (change)
It's easier to leave than to be left behind (it's pulling me apart)
Leaving was never my proud (change)
Leaving New York never easy (it's pulling me apart)
I saw the light fading out
You find it in your heart, it's pulling me apart
You find it in your heart, change...
I told you, forever, I love you, forever (you find it in your heart, it's pulling me apart)
I told you ,I love you, I love you, forever (you find it in your heart, change)
I told you, forever, I love you, forever (you find it in your heart, it's pulling me apart)
I told you, I love you, I love you, forever (you find it in your heart, change)

leaving is never easy. new york, london, quebec wherever home is/was there will always be ties. we are very much like trees aren't we. once we put down roots it takes a lot to dig them up but with a little care and effort the tree can be replanted and we can make the 'new' our home too.

The gypsies. Once hailed from India and are now everywhere in the world. In eastern europe, France, germany, Italy, UK and some have even crossed the great ocean.
Historically speaking, they leave all the time. Never in one place. They dont have roots and they have managed to survive, prosper and be happy..

ditto, cj. and new homes mean new adventures.

I've done it a few times and, so far, never once regretted it - but the move itself is always tough because you know what lies behind you. It's quantifiable, reassuring even if it's bad or mediocre and definitely when it's good. What lies beyond is a big, blank canvas and so uncertainty leaps on your back like an animal and tries to brutalise your mind. Good luck to you, hon! x

CJ... yeah.. I think we are a lot like trees. but you're right... I am not a fragile ficus that can only sit in it's one little corner. I think I am a nice hearty vine that shoudl do well just about anywhere with the proper care and feeding! :)
vasu... I know what you're saying... but it's one thing to never have a home and think of everything as home, while quite another to have a rock solid perception of home and then dig it all up and start over. I have a very different perception of life than the "roma" (which, BTW is the preferred term for these traveling peoples... apparently "gypsy" is a derrogatory term)so I will need some adjustment. But make no mistake, I want roots!!!
(THE NEXT PERSON TO TELL ME SWALPA ADJUST MAADI IS GETTING HELL! LOL)
trans... YAY! adventures! that is one thing I am greatly looking forward to!
andy... hi there dear... it is comforting to hear success stories. every single one makes me more and more sure I will be fine. better than fine, really! uncertainty is a bit frightening, but I think I can survive until the picture gets a bit clearer!
